Ogden family in Jerusalem 1982-1985


00:00 - 01:41: Sara, Daniel, Lizzie playing with toys. No audio. 01:42 - 03:40: Members of the Jerusalem Branch at future site of BYU’s Jerusalem Center, looking out toward the Dome of the Rock: Bro. Chang, Dennetts, Nielsens, Ronas, Ogdens, our Nanny Shawndra Fawson, Debbie Noorlander, Boyds, Haws Marble. No audio. 03:38 - 13:45 (June 9th, 1984): Baby Joseph comes home. Sara, Daniel, Lizzie fascinated with baby Joseph. Videographer: Delores Manning. Daniel says “that’s not nice” in reference to Joseph being circumcised earlier that day. 08:42: Sara says “I wish we had a girl!” after learning that girls do not have to be circumcised. 13:50 - 18:04 (Lizzie’s 3rd birthday): Ogdens, Shawndra Fawson. No audio. 18:06 - 18:32: Baby Joseph asleep. No audio. 18:35 - 20:06: Sara, Daniel, Lizzie playing outside. Daniel riding a bike with one pedal. No audio. 20:08 - 24:42: Dad, Mom, Sara, and baby Joseph welcome Granny and Grandpa Hunter at Ben-Gurion Airport. Audio in and out. 24:43 - 25:36: Granny and Grandpa Hunter ride a camel. Fall 1984. No audio. 25:37 - 35:37 (July 23rd, 1985 - Mom’s birthday): Daniel, Sara, Lizzie, Joseph, Noorlander boys, Jennica Noorlander, and Tamara Galbraith in the swimming pool at Ramat Rahel, Jerusalem. 35:42 - 35:56 (End of clip): Garland Dennett, Hones at a piano concert. No audio.


00:00 - 06:50: Talent show (“recital”) (Piano portion). No audio until 01:26 when Daniel bows after playing his piano piece. David Hone plays after Daniel, followed by other young people, including Hones. 06:52 - 22:15: Continuation of talent show. A play with actors: Robert and Lola Smith, Joel Galbraith, Krista Boyd, and others. No audio, and video quality is poor. 22:16 - 35:38 (End of clip): Joshua Rona, Daniel Ogden, Tia Boyd and other youth singing, followed by what appears to be a primary program. Audio and video quality is poor.


00:00 - 29:34: Continuation of primary program (Sara: 17:58 – 18:38; Daniel: 21:28 – 22:36). Audio and video quality is poor (in fact, it’s boring with no sound!) 29:35 - 29:55: Blank 29:56 - 35:54 (End of clip): BYU vs. Missouri (Holiday Bowl - March 4th, 1983), including an awesome, old-school Toyota Van commercial at 33:59 (no audio for the commercial).

00:00 - 09:06 (Christmas Eve, 1982 at home in Givat HaMivtar, Jerusalem. Address: 15 Midbar Sinai): No video for first few seconds. Christmas program. Poor video quality, but fairly good audio. At 05:30 Sara sings a song about a little donkey at Bethlehem. At 07:30 other children sing “I am a Child of God.”  09:07 - 27:41: Dad gives a Christmas Eve video tour of our home, including Sara, Daniel, and Lizzie in the children’s room, the office (with BYU’s ancient video equipment), the kitchen (with “the maid” from Canada, Pamela Aube, and smiling Mom at 21:34), the guest room (with footprints of us three children on canvas), and the living room. 27:42 - 33:04: Christmas Day 1982 (afternoon). Opening presents. At 28:27 Tula, a family friend from Argentina, appears on camera.  33:13 - 35:52 (End of clip - late May 1983): Dad using a new camera that BYU bought from John Marshall. Sara, Daniel, and Lizzie playing with the hose and kiddie pool on the patio.


00:00 - 13:17: Continuation of Sara, Daniel, and Lizzie playing in the kiddie pool on the patio. At 11:00 Mom tells Dad to get the neighbor boy, who is sitting on the wall watching, on camera. 13:18 - 19:17: Mom eating in the kitchen. She doesn’t want to be on camera. Friends Dave and Tam Anderson are in the house. Dad tests the features on the “sophisticated” video camera.   19:18 - 24:14: Other children join the fun with the kiddie pool on the patio. Daniel eats a peanut butter sandwich. Dad tells Dave not to use the word “Lordy” on camera.  24:15 - 24:48: Back inside the house with Tam and Dave.   24:49 - 26:12: In the house with Benita (from Panama), Mom, and Sara.   26:13 - 35:50: (End of clip): June 1983—Dad feeding Sara, Daniel, and Lizzie in the kitchen. Dad wants us to sing while we eat. Sara questions how we can eat and sing at the same time. We sing American and Israeli versions of “Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree.” Daniel sings “Genealogy.” We all sing “I Have a Family Tree.” Dad cuts open the bag of milk. Sara sings “Little donkey” and “I Am a Child of God.” Dad comments that Mom has been in the Sinai for three days while he is on “survival” taking care of the children.

Plus Haws Marble, Gary and Liesl McBride, and others. 13:57 – 17:27: Jerusalem Branch Thanksgiving dinner: David Galbraith, Dan Noorlander, Mom Ogden, Holts, Dennetts, Bob and Lola Smith, Oda Rasmussen, Gale Boyd, Debbie Noorlander . . . 17:40 - 29:47: Dad filming people inside and outside of a conference at the LDS meetinghouse in Jerusalem, including Ian Boyd, David Rona, BYU students incl. Martha Marshall; Lizzie, Sara, Tamara Galbraith, Suzi Rona, David Galbraith, tourists with Dan Rona’s tour group, Mom, Marilyn Rona, Tula, Frieda Galbraith, Merilee Shumway, Robert Patch, Brothers Huber, Keith Oaks, and others.  29:55 - 35:54 (End of clip): Jerusalem Branch 1983 Christmas program (Dad presiding and Dan Rona conducting). Aaron Boyd will narrate. Primary children gather to perform the Christmas story. Tia Boyd is Mary.


00:00 - 24:20 (End of clip): Jerusalem Branch 1983 Christmas program. Aaron Boyd narrates. Lizzie, Sara, Jennica Noorlander, and Tamara Galbraith are angels. Tia Boyd is Mary. Daniel is a shepherd. At 04:50-08:35 Dad and Mom sing a beautiful Christmas song, with Dad playing the guitar. Angel Lizzie spends most of the time sucking her thumb. At one point, Angel Sara starts removing her costume before realizing the program has not yet ended. She then returns to her angelic position. At 15:53 Dan Rona leads the group in singing “Here Comes Santa Claus,” during which Santa (Bro. Holt?) comes into the room to distribute gifts to the children. At 20:17 Lizzie receives her gift from Santa. At 23:15 Sara receives her gift, followed immediately by Daniel. Apparently, Daniel didn’t want to sit on Santa’s lap.
